La nueva herramienta de edición de los mensajes se presenta con el nombre de ‘Spoiler’ (destripar o desvelar) y permite a un usuario esconder información en un mensaje de texto, de tal forma que si se selecciona, la información no será visible en la conversación aunque el mensaje se haya enviado.

La información permanecerá oculta bajo una franja de color y para descubrir de qué se trata, el resto de participantes tienen que tocar la burbuja del mensaje, como ha compartido el portal especializado WABetainfo.

De esta manera, se evita que todos los miembros de un grupo descubran un dato clave de una película recién estrenada o de una novela antes de que hayan podido verla o leerla, y permite a los participantes elegir si quieren arriesgarse con el contenido.

Se trata de una herramienta en desarrollo, presente en la beta de WhatsApp para iOS v26.6.10.71. Por el momento se limita a los mensajes de texto y no hay información que indique planes para extenderla a otros formatos, como vídeos o imágenes.
