Venezuela y Estados Unidos acordaron combatir juntos el narcotráfico en la región durante un encuentro en Caracas de la presidenta encargada del país suramericano, Delcy Rodríguez, con el jefe del Comando Sur estadounidense, Francis Donovan, informó este miércoles el ministro de Comunicación venezolano, Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela.

“Ambos países acordaron trabajar en el diseño de una agenda de cooperación bilateral para la lucha contra el tráfico de sustancias ilícitas” y el terrorismo, así como para abordar juntos la migración, señaló el funcionario en la red social X.

En un primer momento, Pérez Pirela dijo en su mensaje en X que también se había acordado una lucha conjunta contra el terrorismo, pero posteriormente lo suprimió.

Los ministros de Defensa y de Interior de Venezuela, Vladimir Padrino López y Diosdado Cabello, respectivamente, también se encontraban en la reunión, según el ministro de Comunicación.

“El encuentro ratifica que debe ser el camino diplomático el mecanismo para resolver divergencias y abordar temas de interés binacional y regional, de interés para todas las partes”, agregó.

La encargada de Negocios de EE.UU. en el país caribeño, Laura Dogu, indicó previamente en X que la visita de Donovan concluyó este miércoles, luego de reunirse “con las autoridades interinas para evaluar el tema de seguridad, garantizar la implementación del plan de tres fases” del presidente Donald Trump y “avanzar en el objetivo de una Venezuela alineada con los Estados Unidos”.

El plan al que hizo referencia Dogu tiene, según Washington, tres fases para la transición en Venezuela, tras la captura de Nicolás Maduro y su esposa, Cilia Flores, el pasado 3 de enero en medio de un ataque de tropas militares estadounidenses a Caracas y tres regiones cercanas.

Las tres fases serían la de estabilización del país y “restauración de la seguridad”, la recuperación de la economía y una “transición” a una “Venezuela amigable, estable, prospera y democrática”.

Según otra publicación de la embajada en X, el general Donovan, en el cargo desde hace dos semanas, reiteró a las autoridades de Caracas el compromiso de su país “con una Venezuela libre, segura y próspera, en beneficio del pueblo venezolano, de los Estados Unidos y del hemisferio occidental”.

En la misma red social, el Comando Sur calificó de “productivas” las reuniones con las autoridades venezolanas, en las que también participaron la encargada de Negocios y el subsecretario adjunto de Defensa Nacional de EE.UU., Joseph M. Humire.

“El Comando Sur se compromete a impulsar la Estrategia de Seguridad Nacional y la Estrategia de Defensa Nacional, trabajando en colaboración con los países socios para construir un futuro seguro y próspero para el hemisferio”, agregó la división militar en X.

El Gobierno de Rodríguez mantiene estrechos contactos con Estados Unidos dirigidos, principalmente, a recuperar las relaciones diplomáticas, que estuvieron rotas desde 2019, y a revitalizar la industria petrolera del país suramericano.
