La Armada de Sri Lanka confirmó este miércoles que ha recuperado varios cadáveres tras el hundimiento frente a las costas del país del buque de la Armada iraní IRIS Dena, en el que viajaban unas 180 personas, sin precisar por el momento el número exacto de fallecidos, mientras continúan las operaciones de búsqueda y rescate.

“Recuperamos algunos cadáveres, pero no podemos confirmar cuántos”, afirmó el portavoz de la Marina ceilandesa, Buddhika Sampath, quien añadió que la prioridad actual de la Armada es localizar y ayudar a posibles supervivientes.

Sampath indicó que las autoridades recibieron una señal de socorro en el centro de rescate marítimo y que la Marina se ha centrado exclusivamente en las tareas de búsqueda y rescate en la zona.

Según el portavoz, las operaciones se han ampliado mediante cálculos basados en el momento en que se recibió la llamada de emergencia y en las condiciones meteorológicas, con el objetivo de delimitar el área donde podrían encontrarse más supervivientes.

“Mientras llevábamos a cabo la operación de rescate en la zona, no observamos ningún barco en esa zona en particular. La Armada es la única que realiza operaciones de búsqueda y rescate en la zona”, añadió el portavoz.

El ministro de Asuntos Exteriores de Sri Lanka, Vijitha Herath, informó previamente de que la Marina había rescatado al menos a 30 tripulantes gravemente heridos del buque, que fueron trasladados al Hospital General de Karapitiya, en la ciudad sureña de Galle.
