El mandatario estuvo acompañado por el titular del Consejo de Ministros, Ernesto Álvarez, durante la actividad protocolar, que fue abierta al público y contó con la presentación de la banda de honor de Palacio de Gobierno, encargada de amenizar la ceremonia que se realiza de manera habitual al mediodía.

La participación del jefe de Estado se produce mientras el pleno del Congreso de la República evalúa siete mociones que buscan su salida del cargo, luego de que se revelaran reuniones no registradas que sostuvo con empresarios chinos fuera de Palacio de Gobierno, además de otros cuestionamientos.

El presidente José Jerí confirmó que no asistirá al hemiciclo para ejercer su defensa.
