El presidente Daniel Noboa aseveró este viernes que el arancel a las importaciones colombianas, que subirá del 30 % al 50 % desde el próximo domingo, es “el producto de un descuido absoluto en la frontera de parte de Colombia” en temas de seguridad, que ha representado una inversión extra de cerca de 400 millones de dólares anuales para Ecuador.

El presidente Daniel Noboa aseveró este viernes que el arancel a las importaciones colombianas, que subirá del 30 % al 50 % desde el próximo domingo, es “el producto de un descuido absoluto en la frontera de parte de Colombia” en temas de seguridad, que ha representado una inversión extra de cerca de 400 millones de dólares anuales para Ecuador.

“Esta sobretasa es el producto de un descuido absoluto en la frontera de parte de Colombia e, incluso, el Ejército ha sido retirado varios centenares de kilómetros, y eso nos duplica el costo de proteger nuestra frontera cerca de 400 millones de dólares adicionales al año”, dijo Noboa en una entrevista con radio Centro.

Comentó que desde la llamada ‘tasa de seguridad’ del 30 % aplicada desde el pasado 1 de febrero bajo el argumento de falta de acciones en temas de seguridad por parte de Bogotá, las muertes violentas en las provincias fronterizas de Carchi, Esmeraldas y Sucumbíos “se han reducido un 33,3 %”.

De acuerdo al gobernante, el “peor socio comercial” de Ecuador es Colombia, con 1.100 millones de dólares en déficit comercial.

En febrero de 2025, “el déficit mensual de balanza comercial fue 90 millones. Este mes es positivo 30 millones”, lo que da oportunidad de “mayor comercialización de ciertos productos ecuatorianos a la interna y genera también un mejor ambiente comercial directo”, dijo.

En reciprocidad a la decisión ecuatoriana, Colombia aplica desde el pasado martes un arancel del 30 % a 23 partidas arancelarias agrupadas en 73 subpartidas correspondientes a bienes agrícolas, alimenticios e industriales.

Noboa sostiene que las demandas impuestas por Bogotá a la ‘tasa de seguridad’ ante la Comunidad Andina de Naciones (CAN) “se vuelven humo el momento en que ellos aplican una tasa o un arancel”.

Ante el anuncio de posibles paralizaciones de transportistas en la frontera, indicó que el ministro del ramo, Roberto Luque, se reunirá este mismo viernes con delegados del sector.

Noboa subrayó que quieren un “comercio justo” con Colombia, “que existan los mismos esfuerzos en el tema de seguridad y también que exista reciprocidad”.

En ese sentido cuestionó que cuando Colombia necesitó energía en 2017 Ecuador “les exportaba más de 300 megas diarios a 1.6 centavos el kilowatio hora”, pero cuando Ecuador tuvo una emergencia en 2024 por el estiaje, “el promedio de venta de ellos, porque decían que fluctuaba, fue de 28 centavos”.
