El anuncio fue realizado por el alcalde Carlos Bruce, quien destacó el heroísmo del agente de la Policía Nacional del Perú (PNP).

“Vecinos, conmovidos por el heroísmo del suboficial de segunda Patrick Hiroshi Ospina Orihuela de la Policía Nacional, quien demostró un gran valor al intentar rescatar a un perro en peligro, hemos decidido que nuestro albergue de mascotas llevará su nombre. La corriente del río —cuyo caudal se había elevado entre 60 y 70 metros cúbicos por minuto debido a las lluvias recientes— lo arrastró junto al animal, haciéndolo desaparecer aguas abajo.

Las labores de búsqueda movilizaron a decenas de efectivos de la PNP, miembros del Cuerpo General de Bomberos, drones y unidades de rastreo a lo largo del río durante toda la noche.
