Testigos señalaron que la fuerza del agua impidió que el padre y la menor pudieran ponerse a salvo luego del impacto inicial contra la infraestructura deteriorada.

Tras varias horas de búsqueda, pobladores y rescatistas lograron ubicar a la madre de la niña, una joven de 18 años, quien sobrevivió al accidente. La mujer fue trasladada para recibir atención médica debido a que presentaba diversas contusiones leves.

Los pobladores también habían advertido previamente sobre el riesgo de un accidente fatal, debido a la inestabilidad del terreno y al incremento del caudal del río Chimú en las últimas semanas.
