Estas negociaciones se producen además bajo las amenazas militares de Estados Unidos, que ha realizado el mayor despliegue militar estadounidense desde la invasión de Irak con dos portaaviones, varios destructores y docenas de cazas de combate en las cercanías de la República Islámica.

En opinión de Araqchí, los dos rivales tienen la oportunidad histórica para alcanzar un acuerdo sin precedentes que aborde las preocupaciones mutuas y satisfaga los intereses de ambas partes.

El encuentro del jueves supondrá la tercera ronda de negociaciones nucleares indirectas entre Araqchí y el enviado especial de la Casa Blanca, Steve Witkoff, tras dos reuniones anteriores en Omán y Ginebra en las que el ministro de Exteriores omaní, Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, ejerció de intermediario.
