La comisión se instaló en el Palacio Federal Legislativo, sede parlamentaria en Caracas, dirigida por el diputado chavista Jorge Arreaza como presidente y por la opositora Nora Bracho como vicepresidenta.

La presidenta encargada del país, Delcy Rodríguez, promulgó la ley tras su aprobación en el Parlamento y pidió “celeridad” a esta comisión para revisar los casos “no contemplados” en la legislación.

La ley en teoría cubre el período establecido entre 1999 y 2026, pero específica 13 coyunturas políticas arrancando en 2002, lo que excluye arrestos ocurridos en al menos 15 de los últimos 27 años, así como los casos relacionados con operaciones militares.

En su artículo 15, la legislación planteó la creación de esta comisión de seguimiento con la tarea de implementar “mecanismos” para cumplir la ley y también puede recomendar a otros organismos del Estado la adopción de “medidas alternativas” en casos evaluados por la comisión.

Este viernes, la ONG Foro Penal, que lidera la defensa de presos políticos, informó que entregará a la comisión especial una lista con 232 casos para que sean incluidos en la amnistía.

Por su parte, la Fuerza Armada venezolana respaldó este viernes la ley de amnistía aprobada por el Parlamento y consideró que es un “paso trascendental para lograr la estabilidad” del país.
