“Quería que sonara peruano, pero no como el típico acompañamiento del folclor”, explica Robles, quien además de colaborar con diversos músicos internacionales lidera su proyecto solista Anti-Groove. La propuesta implicaba desplazar jerarquías: la electrónica y la guitarra no harían mímesis de la percusión ni buscarían acomodarse a sus golpes. Ambas tradiciones debían convivir en tensión. “Me acuerdo mucho que le dije a Ale: no me sigas”, cuenta Robles. Es decir, que no buscara en la percusión un patrón rítmico del cual guiarse. Para Ale Hop, la idea conceptual era ubicar el instrumento en primer plano, dejando oír la madera y el golpe de la mano mediante una inusual colocación de micrófonos y crear luego capas envolventes de texturas alrededor. “Como yo lo veo, el cajón está al medio de todo y la electrónica lo rodea o lo envuelve. A veces lo sumerge, a veces lo sobrepasa. Hay una lucha ahí”, dice Ale Hop.
La primera en instalarse en Alemania fue Robles, que llegó en 2012 en medio de un viaje musical que terminó por prolongarse indefinidamente. Cárdenas se mudó a Berlín en 2014 al descubrir que su música podía encontrar interlocutores fuera del país. De hecho, sus últimos trabajos, como “Mapambazuko” (2025), junto al guitarrista congoleño Titi Bakorta, y su más reciente producción solista “A Body Like Home”, han recibido elogiosas reseñas en la prensa internacional.
