La noche del 17 de febrero, Lizeth Marzano fue arrollada en la cuadra ocho de la avenida Camino Real, en San Isidro, por un vehículo que, según la Fiscalía, era conducido por Adrián Villar. Tras el impacto, el conductor se retiró del lugar sin prestar auxilio.

La atleta fue trasladada al hospital Casimiro Ulloa, donde falleció poco después debido a un traumatismo craneoencefálico severo.

El Ministerio Público formalizó cargos contra Villar por homicidio culposo, omisión de socorro y fuga del lugar del accidente, delitos por los que podría enfrentar hasta ocho años de prisión. El investigado permaneció varios días sin presentarse ante las autoridades antes de que se concretara su entrega.
